Museum Collaborations: Synergies at Work
Join us on October 19, 20, 28 and 29, 2020 as we bring our postponed 2020 Conference online!
Plan for two sessions each day, with an opportunity to network with your colleagues during our Lunch Conversations and help us celebrate the 2020 MAA Professional Recognition Awards with a virtual presentation to our honorees. Nic Honeysett, Director and CEO at Balboa Park Online Collaborative, will join us live on October 19 to explore the changing face of collaboration in the 21st century.
Whether it is reaching new audiences and underserved communities, caring for and interpreting the collections, or to building institutional capacity, museums continue to forge partnerships. Collaborations can occur within an organization between volunteers, staff, and board members, as well as across departments, between educators, curators, conservators, registrars, and administrators.
Collaborations also occur outside the museum with individuals, organizations, and communities, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Identifying the right partner(s), creating a shared vision, defining and sustaining a relationship, and a willingness to share resources such as skills and knowledge is no easy task. Each partner must bring to the dialog their commitment to the process and a desire to explore new possibilities.
