Once Upon a ...Museum: Telling All Our Stories

People gravitate to stories – both hearing them and telling them. In a practical sense, storytelling can be both a process and a product. A story can drive an exhibition, be the theme of a program, and it can even be a tool to secure funding.

Join us at the 2015 Annual Meeting as we explore how museums can use stories to connect to visitors and take them somewhere beyond the role of listener. Discuss the varied methods for storytelling in museums. Consider how storytelling can provide traction for a museum’s goals and mission, creating advocates and spurring them to action. Learn from organizations and examples from other fields that utilize stories effectively and envision how to adapt those practices to museums.

One of MAA’S strategic initiatives is to “promote creativity and innovation, and empower museums to be change agents.” Harnessing the power of storytelling can bring Arizona’s museums closer to that goal.
