About MAA

History

The Museum Association of Arizona was founded in 1982 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the enrichment and support of Arizona’s museum community.   Its purpose is to:

  • Foster  communication and cooperation between Arizona museums and related organizations
  • Provide  educational opportunities for museum workers through meetings and publications
  • Advocate  and publicize these objectives statewide

Mission Statement

The Museum Association of Arizona exists to build a vital museum community. We strengthen all of Arizona’s museums so they are recognized as essential to the fabric of their communities. We do this through professional development, advocacy, and the creation of networking opportunities across the state.

Structure

The state is divided into four regions, each represented by a Regional Director, whose responsibility it is to ensure that the museums wtihin that region are able to fully access  information and opportunities offered by MAA.

Northern Region: Tony Thibodeau (athibodeau@musnaz.org)

Central Region: Sherri Starkey (Starkey.Sherri@gmail.com)

Southern Region:  Gina Compitello-Moore (ginacompitello@email.arizona.edu)

Western Region: Tammy Snook (tammy.snook@yumaaz.gov)

The Board consists of 4 Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer), the Immediate Past President, the 4 Regional Directors and 4 At-large Directors, who are elected for 2 year terms at the Annual Business Meeting.
